ESCAPING DOUBLE-MINDEDNESS

The PRAYER OF FAITH is exactly that. It is praying with the faith of God and faith in God. The one thing that I see among many in the body of Christ when praying for people or over people is a state of double-mindedness.

James 1:5-8 ESV If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (6) But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. (7) For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; (8) he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

THE PROBLEM WITH DOUBLE-MINDEDNESS:
If this teaching of James ended with James 1:5 we would all get it and have no problems. But verses 6-8 are what get many Christians in trouble. See verse 7. “Anything” means just that “anything.” A double-minded man will not receive anything from the Lord no matter how much he prays.

Does it say that a double-minded man is unstable in some ways? No! He is unstable in ALL his ways. He is a person who is torn between his carnal fleshly desires and the will of his spiritual man. When we pray we need to believe that we have received.

Hebrews 11:6 ESV And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

When will you have your healing? When will you have your financial breakthrough? When will you have the anointing of God on you? When do you believe that you have received? When you believe, you will receive.

Mark 11:24 ESV Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

We are not healed in prayer because we are a wonderful godly Christian going to Bible College. We are not healed in prayer because we are a terrible ungodly Christian. We are healed because we believe and we receive what the Father says and this is true for any area of need in our lives

Some will always be sense-ruled and won’t believe anything until they see it or feel it to be right. Do we have brains? Have we seen them, touched them, heard them, tasted them, or smelled them? Yet we know that they are there in our head. 

A Double-minded believer: A believer who is unstable in all his/her ways and cannot be trusted or relied upon to be steadfast. They are situation or circumstance driven. Give me a "faith" Christian any day.

Okay, so how do I get healed from double-mindedness? We need to allow the Word to come in over and over until it renews our mind. We need to give some people the permission to ask us the hard questions when we speak. Like "where did that statement come from?" We need to allow those whom we trust and love to reprove us of our double-mindedness without being offended or trying to justify our actions. Hey, if it were easy, everyone would be getting in line to get free. And if it were no big deal, our Lord would not have addressed it so sharply within the Word of God, and declared it so fruitless.
