We live in a digital information era. If anything, we have information and data overload. One thing that most all of us feel and think is that a lot of information, especially from our news media cannot be trusted. It might not be a complete lie, but it will be half-truths with a political slant and bias. What can we believe?
IN A TIME OF DECEIT, WHAT IS TRUTH AND WHO IS TRUTH? In light of some of our currents events I am driven in my spirit to write about TRUTH. This will be about four or five parts long and will give first Scriptures about truth and then I will share some thoughts about how I see Truth versus the falsehood we are experiencing. We as believers say that we stand for truth. With the way things are happening in the world in which we live we will get a chance to prove to God, to our Christian brothers and sisters, and to ourselves if truth is really important to us and if we really embrace it. WHO IS TRUTH? These are ABSOLUTE in TRUTH: 1. GOD IS TRUTH: **Well we know from the Word of God that God is truth and there is no error in Him at all. Not only does He not lie but He cannot lie. (Numbers 23:19 ESV) God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? **The only standard whereby we can seal a promise is by the One who is the God of Truth. (Isaiah 65:16 ESV) So that he who blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of truth, and he who takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my eyes. **God is not only truth but He is also unchangeable. There is no wavering in His Word, His promises or His character. (Hebrews 6:17 ESV) So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, (Hebrews 6:18 ESV) so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. **Our Lord Jesus Christ declares that God is true and that His words are true. John 3:33-34 ESV Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. (34) For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. John 7:28 ESV So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, "You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. **Our eternal life is because we know the ONLY TRUE GOD, through our Lord Jesus Christ. John 17:3 ESV And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

Why do we have so much "accepted" false teachings among the body of Christ today? Why do we have groups such as the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses, who were branded as cults now seen as just another branch of the Christian church? What can be done to combat spiritual misinformation and the corruptness of false teachings?
An “implied truth” taken out of context from God's Word should get tagged until considered validated and thus seen as accurate. Such warnings lead to a reduction in perceived accuracy of false teachings. However, it is much easier to produce misinformation than it is to debunk it once it has been read and processed mentally and emotionally. We all have friends who might be a part of a "cultic" group. Let's face it. With the path of least resistance it is easier to compromise God's Word and emotionally embrace our friends as "good Christians" than to stand firm and uncompromisingly in God's Word. It would be a point for us to remember that when our Lord Jesus Christ spent forty days and nights in the wilderness being tempted by the enemy that our Lord used the Word of God to overcome His tempter. He did not use opinion, a watered down version of God's Word, or philosophy to rebuke and defeat the enemy. I have been in many doctrinal conversations with believers who responded to me with “I don’t believe what you are saying because my church doesn’t teach that.” What our church and denomination teaches will deem very insignificant when we are in the fire of trials and are being tempted by the enemy unless they are teaching the truth of God’s Word. We no longer need to be satisfied with words that imply truth, philosophies that exalt man’s intellect, and convenient doctrine that allows us the freedom to be worldly and sinful. We need to be fed that which is truth and life from God’s Word and not given the powerless, fruitless, traditions and religious teachings of man. John 6:32-35 KJV Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. (33) For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. (34) Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. (35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Quotes from the pen of Pastor Charles Morris:
I preach and teach the things I believe to be true with great conviction because I believe this statement to be true. "If the things I believe to be true is good and true for me, then I believe them to be good and true for all men." 1 Timothy 2:3-4 ESV This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, (4) who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. Many may call these "basic doctrines of the faith," but we at RSIM see them as foundational and are mountains worth dying on. There are many doctrines that one can reject and it not have a life or death consequence to it. However, rejecting any of these 7 doctrines affects our stand about the truth of God's Word as to who He is and what He has done for us, which in turn affects God's plan to redeem mankind from their sin nature.
Therefore, unless these basic doctrines are agreed upon there can be no fellowship, for there is no basis for unity in the Spirit. 1. The doctrine of the Trinity, (God the Father, the God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit) 2. The Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, 3. The virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, 4. The sacrificial work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross to redeem mankind, 5. The Bible being the Word of God without compromise 6. Mankind as a whole is lost and cannot save himself and Jesus is the ONLY way of salvation 7. Salvation is a gift given out of God's love and a gift received by grace through faith without works of man If you can say "Yea and Amen" to these basic doctrines then we lovingly seek to walk in fellowship, in prayer, in praise, and in the Word of God with you. We also would like to assist you in anyway we can in advancing the kingdom truths of God's Word in your life in these trying times which we live. |
