HOW TO BE SAVED AND KNOW IT WITH ASSURANCE
|
REMEMBER: PRAYERS DON'T SAVE PEOPLE: JESUS SAVES PEOPLE.
The first thing that must happen before someone can be saved is to realize that he or she is lost. It is no use in throwing a life preserver to people in the ocean when they are just swimming. They will think that you are crazy. However, if someone is drowning he seriously needs and will welcome a life preserver.
If someone desires to become a Christian, known as "being saved" or "to be born again", he needs to realize his life is in need of help and in need of salvation that only exists outside of himself.
I. RECOGNIZE GOD’S LOVE: The love of God makes possible the salvation of mankind.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
II. RECOGNIZE THAT MAN IS LOST, SEPARATED FROM GOD, AND CANNOT SAVE HIMSELF THROUGH ANY GOOD WORKS: There must be a conviction or realization of three things:
1. That you are a sinner and cannot save yourself.
2. That because you are a sinner you will die, be judged, and will spend eternity in hell.
3. That Jesus Christ is both God and the Son of God, died on a cross for your sins, rose from the dead, and is the only way a person can be saved and escape the judgment of hell.
John 16:8-11 ESV And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: (9) concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; (10) concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; (11) concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
III. RECOGNITION OF SIN CONDITION: Admit that you are a sinner.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” 1 John 1:8
IV. RECOGNIZE THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN: THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH: Unless you recognize your sinful state and make a change, your soul will be eternally lost.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
V. SALVATION IS FREE TO ALL WHO BELIEVE AND IS NOT DEPENDENT UPON SELF WORKS: The good news is that the gift is free to all who will believe and it cannot be earned by turning over a new leaf, denying ourselves or by any good works we might perform.
“Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.” Matthew 18:14
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,… being justified by his grace…” Titus 3:5-7
VI. RECOGNIZE THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS CHRIST FOR ALL MANKIND: Christ’s blood paid a debt we could never pay.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7
“…and without shedding of blood is no remission.” Hebrews 9:22
VII. BELIEVE GOD AND RECEIVE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH: You cannot save yourself. You need the Savior. Believe God and His Word.
“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” Acts 16:31
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
VIII. REPENT: MAKE A WILLFUL DECISION TO TURN AWAY FROM SIN: Feel regret for sin, change your mind, and turn from sin to God. Demonstrate the change in your heart by your actions. Confession of sin is a fruit of repentance and it brings to light those deeds that keep you in bondage.
“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3
“…repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 20:21
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” James 5:16
IX. BE CONVERTED. . . ALSO KNOWN AS BEING "BORN AGAIN:" This is what God does for you when you call upon the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ to save you. This is the new birth – a miracle of spiritual life performed by the Holy Spirit through faith in the sacrificial, atoning blood of Jesus Christ.
“...Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3
“...Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3
NOW...If you believe the points above you can pray (call out) and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to receive your life because you are giving it to Him and that you are receiving His life in you. Ask Him to forgive you. If you do this with a heart of faith the Bible says that you will be saved and forgiven. You will be known as a Christian and a child of God.
OKAY: Now that you have Christ to come into your life and you have become a Christian, what is next?
