For those of us who want to know God better, we need to explore the names, the titles, and the metaphors through which God has presented Himself to us in His Word. While what may be known about God through natural revelation is plain, we human beings seem to “suppress the truth in unrighteousness”
Rom 1:18 KJV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:18 ASV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness;
Paul writes in Rom.1:21-23 that “although they knew God, they did not glorify God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things”.
The knowledge of the One True God has been available to mankind from the beginning, but was rejected and is currently being rejected, suppressed, and corrupted. The word “god” has lost its original meaning and has been perverted by mankind to mean anything from a tree, to a bug, or to the wind.
In reality we can see that the “gods” of all the different peoples and places were not invented in a honest and pious search for Him, but rather in a desperate attempt to escape from Him and find a substitute. One of the traits of mankind is to find a stubstitute way of doing things. How do I know this? The Scriptures tell us that we will find HIM, (The One True God), if we seek HIM with all our hearts.
Deu 4:28-29 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. (29) But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
